Your Questions Answered

1. What makes your swimwear different from others on the market?

Our swimwear stands out for its exceptional sun protection, refined design, and sustainable innovation. Crafted from high-quality Italian fabrics that combine ultra-thin, lightweight technology with exceptional sun safety, these fabrics offer UPF 50+ protection tested to the world’s most rigorous standards for UV protection:
– AS 4399:2020 (Australia)
– EN 13758-1:2007 (Europe)
– AATCC TM183:2020 (USA)

2. Why synthetic fibers instead of cotton?

While cotton may feel familiar, it absorbs water, becomes heavy, and offers minimal sun protection - particularly when untreated. Our high-performance fabrics are specifically engineered for waterwear: breathable, quick-drying, and soft against delicate skin. Crucially, they provide UPF 50+ protection, unlike cotton which typically offers UPF 15 at best when dry.

3. How do I correctly use your swimsuits?

Our swimwear is designed for play in and around water - whether at the beach, pool, or under a garden sprinkler. We recommend avoiding prolonged wear outside water in hot conditions (such as in a pram or car seat), as the suits are not intended to provide thermal regulation. Their unlined design encourages airflow, helping your child stay cool and comfortable while playing.

4. How should I handle diaper changes with baby swimsuits?

Our baby swimsuits feature a convenient snap button opening to make diaper changes seamless and hassle-free. We recommend using a nappy underneath our baby swimsuit style, as the thin and breathable fabric might be slightly transparent. This ensures your baby stays comfortable and avoids any potential accidents.

5. Do I need to put sunscreen under your UPF50+ sun suits ?

No. Our fabric is independently tested to the AS/NZS 4399 standard and blocks ≥ 98 % of UVA & UVB. Just remember to sunscreen the uncovered parts – face, ears, neck, hands, feet and the edges of cuffs and to top-up exposed skin every 2 hours (or after swimming/towelling). If your child has a photosensitive condition, check with your paediatrician or dermatologist for personalised advice.

6. How do I care for my swimwear?

To ensure the longevity of your swimwear, rinse it in cool, fresh water after each use. Avoid harsh detergents and bleach. Gently squeeze out excess water and lay flat to dry. Our fast-dry fabric will have your swimwear ready for the next adventure in no time!

7. Can the swimwear prevent overheating?

Our swimwear is designed for use in and around water, with an emphasis on keeping your child cool and comfortable. The thin, breathable fabric helps prevent overheating, but it is still important to use the swimwear as intended. Avoid overdressing your child and monitor them closely, particularly in warm environments.

8. Where are your products made?

Our swimwear is proudly made in Portugal using high-quality Italian fabric. We believe in supporting sustainable and ethical manufacturing practices, ensuring your purchase is as good for the planet as it is for your child.

9. Will I be charged import duties?

UK and Swiss customers won’t pay import duties on their MIKOU orders. Under current trade agreements and tax regulations, children’s swimwear made in Europe qualifies as duty-free. Your parcel is delivered just as it should be: simply, and without surprises.
